Maude Eloise "Becky" Harrison

Maude Eloise (Becky) Powell Harrison passed away Tuesday evening, August 13, 2024. Becky was born in Clifton Forge, Alleghany County, Virginia on September 28, 1939. As a youth she lived in Cheyenne, WY, Powhatan, VA and Crewe, VA where she attended high school.

She and her husband John B. Harrison were married June 16, 1962 and lived in Garner, NC for the past fifty nine years. She spent her life devoted to her family, extended family and friends.

Preceded in death by her parents Grattan Minnick Powell and Eloise Elizabeth Honts Powell and one grandson, William Harrison Scott, Becky is survived by her husband and children Ed (Kim) Harrison, Sally Scott, Jay (Waynette) Harrison and Grattan Harrison. Also surviving are grandchildren Mandi (Ramsey) Crow, SaraBeth (Tucker) Carlson, Katie Ann Scott, Austin Harrison, El Harrison, and Jack Harrison; sister The Rev. Dorryce Powell (Jerry) Rudd; and brother-in-law Patrick Harrison. Expected this week is her great-grandson Gavin Crow. Becky’s extended family includes a chosen daughter Beth (Ashley) Glover and son Chris, and many nieces and nephews special to her.

A graduate of Westhampton College, Becky is a former public school teacher, early preschool administrator, and Sunday school teacher. She was involved with many organizations throughout her life supporting her varied interests and making life-long friends. One group she especially enjoyed for forty seven years was the Spectator Book Club she helped to establish and in which she exchanged literary viewpoints with its beloved members.

A memorial visitation (casual) will be held Sunday, August 25, from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. A private service and burial will take place at Toms Creek Church Cemetery (Denton, NC) at a later date.
