Willow Spring- Maxine Adams Gardner was born September 29, 1935 to the late Melvin and Spicie Adams. She was the only child, but her Daddy’s youngest brother, Aaron came to live with them when he was 11 when his Mother died. Aaron became like Maxine’s older brother. They always loved each other, and he treated her like his “little sister”. Maxine graduated from Fuquay Springs High School in 1953 and then attended Hardbarger Business College in Raleigh. When she graduated she went to work with the Occoneechee Boy Scout Council and later with the central office of the Employment Security Commission. Then she met the love of her life, Jim Gardner while he was a soldier at Fort Bragg. They were married and had a great marriage of 55 years until Jim passed away in March 2015. They had 4 children. When the children got old enough to go to school, Maxine began to work at the Willow Spring Post Office and retired after 23 years as a rural mail carrier. She always liked to drive and was a real “people person”, so she enjoyed her job very much. She was a faithful member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Willow Spring for 54 years and held many offices during that time. She loved the Lord and was a faithful witness. Surviving are her 4 children, Dena (Jim) Birks, Donna (Gene) Jeffries, Jimmy (Hope) Gardner and Dawn Gardner; 5 grandchildren, Brandon Gardner, Miranda Gardner, Morgan (Brian) Thomas, Caleb Walker and Emily Senter; 4 great grandchildren, Dalton, Vayda Rae, Siler Gardner and Marlee Grace Thomas. Visitation will be at Fellowship Baptist Church in Willow Spring on Monday, August 27, 2018 from 1:00 - 2:45pm with a funeral at 3:00pm and burial to follow in church cemetery.
