Maxine Mama Mac Newton Strickland

RALEIGH- Maxine Mama Mac Newton Strickland, formerly of Raleigh, departed this life and joined her Lord and Savior on April 1, 2011. Maxine was born on June 3, 1928 and was the daughter of the late Willie and Thelma Newton. She retired from NCNB Bank and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1945. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Edison Ed Cooke. Maxine was a beloved wife, mother, grandma, old grandma, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to all. A celebration of life service will be held at Ebenezer United Methodist Church on Tuesday, April 5 at 2pm. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Maxine is survived by her husband Hurshel Strickland of 59 years, her children: Eddie Cooke and wife Sandy, Tim Strickland and friend Tammy, John Strickland and wife Wanda, Teresa Thompkins and husband Donnie, Dana Strickland and wife Karen. She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren: Amanda, Timothy, Kyle, Kimberly, Jeanna, Brandi, Gray, Nicholas, Cameron, Katie, Cody, Tori, and Drew; 8 great-grandchildren: Kayla, Skylar, Carson, Matthew, Chloe, Hadassah, Pennie, and Natalie, two sisters, Marguerite Ricky Nordan and Paulette Cooper and two brothers, Harold Newton and Grady Buddy Newton. The family will receive friends Monday, April 4, from 6-8 pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Raleigh or to Hospice of Wake County. Many thanks to Samantha and Carson Little Man for the love, friendship, and care they shared with her and Old Papa during the last couple years.
