RALEIGH – Melvin Clyde Kennedy, 83, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 9, 2021. He was the son of the late Richard Ralph Kennedy and Mildred Madge Brown Kennedy of Asheboro, NC. He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart of over 63 years, Dixie Dare King Kennedy; son, Mark Anthony Kennedy (Paige); granddaughters, Elizabeth Dare Peebles (Tucker), Katherine Paige DiFilippo (Nick); 5 great grandchildren, Anthony Peebles, Erik, Kent, Anders, and Juliet DiFilippo. Also surviving Mel is his sister, Patricia Kennedy Smith; a very special niece, Camden Smith Dunn; and two great nieces, Quinn and Ivey. Among his dearest friends were his fishing buddies and his card playing buddies. Mel was an avid reader and a life-long collector. His love of sports and his faith led many children to be wonderful young men. A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Private interment will take place at a later date in Historic Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the N.C. Wildlife Endowment Fund at www.ncwildlife.org/donate.
