Clayton - Michael David Tripp, 66, of Clayton, NC passed away on Monday, August 5, 2019. He was born May 6, 1953 in Jacksonville, Florida, to Charles and Beulah Tripp. Mike is survived by his wife, Jean Mahan Tripp of Clayton, with whom he shared 43 wonderful years. He also leaves behind his loving children, Michael (Stephanie) Tripp of Garner and William (Suzi) Tripp of Garner, along with six grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Fred (Melanie) Tripp of Monroe, LA, Dan (Linda) Tripp of Monroe, LA, and Jody Tripp of Middleburg, FL, along with many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Beulah Tripp. Mike grew up in Orange Park, FL and graduated from Orange Park High School in 1971. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1971, but not before meeting the girl that would win his heart. They wrote each other letters while he served in Vietnam. When he returned home in 1975, they got married and began their family. Like his father, Mike decided to dedicate the rest of his career to public service as a police officer. In his free time, Mike loved to spend time with his family. He was a devoted member of the Catholic church and served as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was full of jokes, was a master storyteller, and loved his family unconditionally. He will be greatly missed. A memorial mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Garner, NC on Tuesday, August 13th at 11:00 am. A gathering for family and friends will be held at the church hall following the service. For guests only attending the gathering, we anticipate it to begin at 12:00pm. Interment will be held at 3:00 pm at Maplewood Cemetery in Clayton, NC. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made in Mike’s name to the V Foundation (online at www.v.org or by mail to The V Foundation for Cancer Research, 14600 Weston Parkway, Cary, NC 27513).
