Michael Lang

May 15, 1945 — January 16, 2025

Michael Joseph Lang, 79, passed away peacefully Thursday January 16th surrounded by loved ones.

Michael was born May 15,1945 in Manhattan Beach California. He was the youngest of two sons of Mary and Elroy Lang. Michael loved art, surfing, his friends and family. He attended USC in southern California, then met the love of his life Cheryl Young. After they married they embarked on a seven year adventure to Melbourne, Australia. While they were there they made lasting friendships, enjoyed teaching, and explored Australia. During their time there they welcomed their first child Joshua Christian Lang. Due to complications at birth he went to heaven at 11 days old. After this Michael and Cheryl decided to move back to the states where they had more family support. Upon arriving home they settled on the central coast. A couple years later they welcomed a daughter Elizabeth Mary. Two years later Vanessa Michelle was born.

Michael had a very fulfilling career as a Junior high art teacher. He loved art and wanted it to bring joy to others. At sixty he retired and continued to pursue art, surfing, and gardening. During this time he also cared for Cheryl until her passing in 2018.

Shortly after, Michael relocated to North Carolina to be with his daughter Vanessa. Elizabeth and her family followed one year later. As a family they were able to make many more wonderful memories. Michael spent his golden years surrounded by his seven grandchildren and two loving daughters.

Michael was an incredible father, husband, teacher and friend who will be dearly missed.
