Michael (Mickey) W. Jones, Sr.

April 19, 1945 — November 15, 2022

Michael (Mickey) W. Jones, Sr, 77, of Raleigh passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 15th, 2022. Mickey survived a catastrophic event in July 2021 and fought hard to come back to his family. We are so thankful for his miraculous recovery and blessed we had him with us for another year.

Mickey was born April 19th, 1945 in Rock Hill, SC to Broadus and Elizabeth (Parker) Jones. Mickey grew up in Fort Mill, SC, he was the baby in a family of seven. Mickey is preceded in death by his son Michael W. Jones, Jr. as well as his 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

Mickey is survived by his wife of 59 years, Pamela (Clayton) Jones. His daughter Cynthia (Terry) Driggers, son Larry (Sharee) Jones, son John Jones, and daughter Sandra (Carl) Owens. His 9 grandchildren: Britanny Wilder, Christopher Cain, Brandon (Morgan) Wilder, Kristen Jones, Corey Jones, Hannah Jones, Dylan Jones, Jordan Jones, and Dale Jones, as well as 5 step-grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Mickey married the love of his life in 1963 and would have celebrated their 60th anniversary in March 2023. Mickey loved his family unconditionally. He was very proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His every thought was to make sure they were happy & healthy. Mickey was a kind gentle soul, who listened more than he spoke. He had the biggest heart, if you needed help with anything and he was able to help, he was the first to offer a helping hand. When he did talk, he was the biggest jokester ever. He loved making people laugh.

Mickey enjoyed hunting & fishing, camping, and absolutely loved collecting miniature cars. In his younger days he was quite active, playing football & baseball with his sons and taking his daughters for jolly rides in his car. “Daddy was bigger than life when we were small. If we heard a noise in the night, the hour didn’t matter, he would get dressed and walk the perimeter of the house with a flashlight to ease our minds that there wasn’t a boogie man outside waiting for us. He loved to play pranks on us kids and have a good laugh.”

He was a mechanical welder by profession and retired after a 40 year plus welding career. He rarely missed a day of work in his career and received many awards for his work ethic. He said many times “If I’m not at my job 30 minutes early then I’m late” and he lived by those words.

In his retirement he worked at Garner Walmart as a greeter, he enjoyed interacting with his co-workers the most. He spoke often about the good people he met while working there. He insisted every day he would be going back to work soon.

The memorial service will be at Bryan Lee Funeral Home (Garner Location), 1200 Benson Road, Garner NC on Tuesday, November 22nd, 2022, at 11:00 am. The family will receive friends and relatives after the memorial service.
