Garner - Michael Preston Crowder, 50, passed away from natural causes on Saturday at his home on Wakefield Lane in Garner. Mike was the fifth of six children born to Sarah Brice Crowder and the late Robert Lee Crowder, Jr. A 1982 graduate of Garner High School, he enlisted in the US Navy in 1984 and served as a flight deck crewman onboard the USS Independence during Operation Urgent Fury (Grenada). He was honorably discharged from the Navy for medical reasons. Mike dearly loved his family especially his nieces and nephews as demonstrated through his playful and generous spirit. The family will receive friends for an informal gathering on Friday, August 8, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner.Mike is survived by his mother, Sarah Brice Crowder of Garner; three sisters, Susan Cooper and husband, John of Garner, Nyla Thompson, PA-C, and husband, Kenneth of Angier, and Frances Parker and husband, James of Benson; brothers, Robert Crowder III of Benson, Joseph Crowder and wife, Lee Ann of Cary; 12 nieces and nephews; 2 great-nieces and 2 great-nephews.
