Michael Vernon Osborne

GARNER - Michael (Mike) Vernon Osborne of Garner was called to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 2, 2022. He had “fought the good fight of faith” in a year-long battle with cancer and left this world peacefully at the age of 61. He died at home. Michael was born January 8, 1961, in Tarboro, N.C. He was the first of four sons born to the late Benjamin Franklin and Josephine Mills Osborne. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from East Carolina University. Michael was self-employed for many years and served the public as a commercial real estate broker and appraiser. A quiet man with strong convictions, Michael sought to live out his faith with authenticity. He was a devout follower of Christ and served as a Sunday School teacher in earlier years. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Clayton. Also having a great love of country, Michael was a 2012 candidate for District 10 of the North Carolina State Senate. Michael had many hobbies and interests, the greatest of which was aviation. Through the years, he owned several planes and was a private pilot with an instrument rating. A lover of fine arts, Michael was interested in Baroque classical music; his favorite was the great opera composer Henry Purcell. He was a dedicated swimmer, runner and an ardent follower of ECU football. Michael was preceded in death by his parents and his youngest brother, Mitchell Lee Osborne. He is survived by brother Gregory Peck (Teresa)) Osborne and their children Cody and Katelyn; and brother Richard Wayne (Lisa) Osborne and their triplets Nicholas, Zachary, and Benjamin. Michael was married to Michelle Flynn Osborne for 25 years. Although divorced, the couple remained lifetime friends. Michelle cared for Michael in his final year and was at his side when he passed. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6 at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh, N.C. 27604. Dr. Charles Ennis will officiate the funeral service and Dr. Jonathon Jenkins will give closing remarks at the graveside.
