Raleigh - Mildred McLeod Fowler, of Raleigh, devoted and much loved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully and surrounded by her loving family on July 21, 2018. A native of Dunn, NC, Mildred was one of ten children. As a teenager, she met the love of her life, Lloyd Fowler. In nearly 62 years of marriage, the only thing that separated them was his death in 2010. Always the stalwart one, she provided unconditional support for her children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. If she had it within her means to help, she did, even if only a strong and loving shoulder to cry on. Growing up during The Depression, she learned to save everything much to the amusement of her children who are now finding themselves happy that she did. Mildred adored her family and felt tremendous pride in every accomplishment, big or small. She loved her home and yard, and enjoyed writing poems, short stories, and pearls of wisdom. She loved Raleigh and North Carolina and never understood why anyone would live elsewhere. A graveside service for family will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Montlawn Memorial Park. Mildred is survived by her son, Donald and wife Anne of Garner; daughter Denise Fowler of Apex; two beautiful granddaughters Ashlie Fowler Lanning (great grandchildren Kye and Ansley) of Raleigh and Allison Fowler Barbour (great grandsons Ben and Cason) of Garner; very special nephew Anthony McLeod and wife Carol and sons Eric McLeod and Taylor McLeod of Willow Spring; sister Ruth McLeod House and brother Cleon McLeod, both of Dunn; and numerous special nieces and nephews who meant the world to her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Fowler; infant daughter Kathy Joan Fowler; parents Willie James McLeod and Emma Batts McLeod Langley; and four brothers and four sisters. Her family would like to thank the special nurses and caregivers at Transitions Lifecare for their compassionate care; and very special friend and caregiver Gloria Bernard. The family will receive friends and share memories Wednesday, July 25, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner.
