CARY- Mildred Watkins Whittlesey, 91, passed away Thursday. A native of Wake County, she was the daughter of the late Carey David Watkins and Bessie Mae Morris Watkins. Mildred was born, and lived most of her life in Wake county, except for a couple of years following her marriage, when she resided in Iowa with her new husband. She had 5 children, but lost her first born at 3 years old. She loved her family, and was fiercely protective of her children, and later, her grandchildren. Mildred was an avid reader, loved to travel, though she never got to see all the places she would have liked, loved country music, and fishing at the beach. She also sang in a quartet in school and at church, earning her the nickname of “Harmony” in high school. Her love for her family will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Survivors include her daughter, Susan W. Ellis (Dan) of Cary; sons, Thomas E. Whittlesey (Jeanne) of Apex, Clifford C. Whittlesey (Robbie) of Lenoir and Paul G.Whittlesey (Linda) of Cary; 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore L. Whittlesey; daughter, Theresa Ann Whittlesey, as well as 3 brothers and 2 sisters. In honor of Mildred, in lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift in her name to Community Home Care and Hospice of Cary.
