Miley “Monk” Perry

Miley Albert Perry, known to friends as “Monk”, 73, passed away Monday December 24, 2018. Monk was born June 6, 1945 to the late Alton Owen Perry and Anne Bryan Perry. He was preceded in death by a brother Alton Owen “Pete” Perry, Jr. He proudly lived all of his life at the family home-place and farm on Lake Wheeler Road, in Wake County. Attending Cary High School, he excelled in the sports of football and track and he always cherished the lifelong friendships with his teammates. Having grown up in the Rhamkatte community, he believed it was a special place and he had a wealth of knowledge about the area, its history and residents. Monk never met a stranger, cultivated relationships with everyone, and possessed a genuine interest in getting to know people—learning their stories and family history. One of his gifts was consistently being able to entertain you with one of his humorous and colorful stories based on his Southern life experiences. He relished the simple things in life, enjoyed hunting, genealogy, metalworking and woodworking. He was skilled with every kind of tool and could fix and make anything. This brief summary only begins to scratch the surface of the life, love, gifts and talents of this man whom we all admired, loved and will miss terribly. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Nancy; son, Alton Owen Perry, II; daughter, Allison Perry Moorefield; son-in-law, Charles Lee Moorefield, Jr.; granddaughter, Lillian Estelle Moorefield; brother, Anthony Bryan Perry and wife Patricia Thompson Perry; special nieces and nephews, Anthony Bryan Perry, Jr., Patrick Lee Perry, Tonya Perry Henshaw, Jonathan Carleton Perry, Sr. and Patricia Perry Talton. The family would like to thank Transitions LifeCare for their expert care and support. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Faith Bible Fellowship, Hwy 401 at Simpkins Road. The family will receive friends and relatives after the service.
