ANGIER – Minnie Elizabeth Smith Cotten, 93, passed away at her home on Thursday, June 13. Born in Johnston County, she was the daughter of the late Mallie Chi Smith and Mamie Chelton Pleasant Smith.
She spent most of her life on her family’s farm and was born and passed on the same homeplace. She was a dedicated farmer’s wife, who enjoyed sewing, cooking, and growing flowers and loved spending time with her children, grandchild, and great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 18th at 10:00 am in the chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier. Burial will follow the service at Sandy Grove Cemetery, Angier. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, June 17th at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier.
Minnie is survived by her daughters, Catheryn Cotten; Benette Cotten Johnson and husband, Jerry Johnson; son, Donald Cotten; grandson, Samuel Elijah Johnson and wife, Meredith Wright; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Tyler Johnson and Samantha Elizabeth Johnson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Cotten; and her sister, Mary Lynn Dupree.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local First Responders in Minnie’s name.
