Mollie Tedder Green passed away peacefully into the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, following a brief illness. Born to the late James F. and Edna Minton Tedder in Tarboro, North Carolina, she lived a long life full of love and optimism. Raised in small town eastern North Carolina, she attended Tarboro schools where she met her husband of 66 years, John Randolph Green. She graduated from Tarboro High School in 1954, enjoyed playing ball, and was Head Cheerleader during her Senior year.
After high school, Mollie attended college at Emanuel College in Franklin Springs, Georgia. She returned home to Tarboro, worked for Carolina Telephone, and married Randolph on April 14, 1957, while he was a Senior at N.C. State College. Following his basic training for the U.S. Army Reserves, they moved to Raleigh, where she worked for the N.C. Employment Security Commission until the birth of their daughter Nancy. John followed a few years later, and Mollie was a wonderful stay-at-home mom to them. She was also active in the P.T.A., she was a grade mother, and she and Randolph organized school fundraisers. She was active in the church choir, a sewing group with friends, and in the Garner Women’s Club. Randolph, Nancy, and John have forever memories of her love of shopping, cooking and entertaining family and friends, and her contagiously optimistic outlook on life.
Mollie returned to work as a church secretary and then for Southern Bell where she stayed until she retired in the mid-1990s. During her active retirement, she and Randolph kept their young Grandchildren, who called their home “Camp Greenbrier” because of the fun and love they experienced there. Mollie and Randolph also traveled with friends and family, taking a couple of cross-country trips and trips to the Pacific Northwest, New England, Alaska, the Caribbean, Haiti, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and Europe. They enjoyed going to church together and spending time with their many church friends at Garner First Baptist and Hayes Barton Baptist. Mollie especially enjoyed her annual week with the family at Summerwinds at Indian Beach, N.C. and family Birthdays, Thanksgivings, and Christmases. She loved to cook for her children and grandchildren, and her “little something I made” for their visits was better than any five-star restaurant.
She was preceded in death by her parents and Grandparents, with whom she was very close and who were also amazingly wonderful, and a sweet nephew James F. Tedder, III. She is survived by her husband Randolph, daughter Nancy and son-in-law James Albright, son John and daughter-in-law Adrienne, Grandchildren Meredyth Albright, Ann Green, and Daniel Green, sister Hilda T. Joyner and brother-in-law Harvey, brother James F. Tedder, Jr. and sister-in-law Patricia, sister-in-law Millie Green Clark, and a host of loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Viewing is planned for Noon on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at Hayes Barton Baptist Church, 1800 Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh. The funeral is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the Hayes Barton sanctuary with the Rev. Dr. David J. Hailey presiding.
