Fuquay-Varina– In the early hours of December 3rd, after a lengthy health struggle, Monteen Fish Adams gained her wings and went home to our Lord Jesus Christ. Monteen was the daughter of the late James E. Fish and Betty Zora Fish Cowing. She was predeceased by her husband, Bill J. Adams; sons, Derrick Judson Adams, and William Cadwell Adams, and brother James E. (Pete) Fish, Jr. Survivors include her daughter, Ivy Runell Adams of Fuquay-Varina; sister Sandra Fish Shannon of Monroe NC; brother-in-law, Joel R. Adams of Raleigh; three granddaughters, Camie Linn Taylor of Fayetteville, Maggie Monteen Smith of Garner and Ashlee Judson Adams of Angier; great grandson, Tyler Ray Hodges of Garner as well as nieces Kelly Moses of Charleston, SC and Rebecca Spivey of Wilmington and nephew-in-law, David Melton of Wilmington. She is also survived by longtime special friends, Sandra Thompson, Barbara Cantrell, Diane Sartini all of Fuquay-Varina, Pede Taylor of Fayetteville, and Anfesa Matthews of Angier. After graduating from Fuquay High School in 1959, Monteen enrolled in Troutman’s Beauty College in Raleigh and after completing the course there went to work with her mother-in-law, Runell Adams in Angier. Monteen had two professional careers, first as a hair stylist for many years and later as an associate in retail jewelry at Anfesa’s Jewelry and The Grand Marquise Ballroom in Garner. After her children, Monteen had two overriding passions in life; playing golf at Bentwinds Country Club where she and Bill were among the first to build their home, fittingly on the 15th green. They also played couples tournaments around the country, her second passion was playing Bridge every Thursday in the clubhouse at Bentwinds with her faithful and fun friends. Monteen was a friend to all and was quick to help those who were down on their luck. She loved pretty clothes, fine jewelry, a clean house, a well-manicured lawn, and a nice car! A service honoring Monteen’s life will be held at Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Angier Monday, December 6 at 2 pm. Her former pastor, the Reverend Grover Blackmon will officiate along with Thomas Allen, minister at Angier Baptist Church where Monteen was a member. Charitable gifts of one’s choosing would, gratefully, honor her memory. Many thanks to the medical staff at Wake Med where exemplary care was provided during the past four months.
