Myron “Gig” Staton

June 12, 1943 — September 29, 2015

GARNER- Myron “Gig” Shelton Staton, 72, loving husband, father, grandfather (Pop) and brother, passed away on Tuesday. He was a Vietnam veteran, having served his country as a member of the United States Air Force. In 1970, Gig graduated from East Carolina University. He retired from the Wake County ABC Board as Finance Director. Gig was awarded a lifetime membership of Masonic Lodge 701 and most recently held the office of Treasurer. He was a past Treasurer of the NC Arabian Horse Association, where he generously devoted his time and talents. For many years, he was an active member of the Garner Optimist Club. Working for Eastern Entertainment, driving trams at the NC State Fair was another of his pleasures. Since retirement, his greatest joy was traveling with Gwyn and spending time with his family. Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Friday at Holland United Methodist Church, Raleigh. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Gwyn Scott Staton; daughters, Meredith Staton Merritt (Destone), Robin M. Langdon; son, Anthony Watson Staton (Jenifer); grandchildren, Brooke, Blaire, Kennedy, Arawen and Ursola; brothers, Marvin W. Staton, Jr. (Doris) and Michael C. Staton (Alba). He was preceded in death by his parents Watson and Ruby Staton. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 pm on Thursday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to The Masonic Home for Children at Oxford - 600 College Street Oxford, NC 27565.
