Myrtle Goodwin Wall

d. April 30, 1982

Myrtle Goodwin Wall, 91, a retired Assistant Director of the NC Dept. of Motor Vehicles, died Monday. She was appointed as Assistant Director by Gov. James B. Hunt, Jr. and on April 30, 1982, he presented her with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. She retired with 30 years service with NC DMV. Myrtle was active in her church and following retirement, made quilts and ceramic nativity scenes for each of her children and grandchildren. She traveled to 48 states with the Garner Travelers. She enjoyed camping and summers on Dawsons Creek and Lake Gaston. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday at Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Entombment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, Clayton. Survivors include her sons, Tommy Wall and wife, Sanof Smithfield and Billy Wall and wife, Jean of Wilmington; sister, Ava Overton of Raleigh; grandchildren, Dale Wall and wife, Kathy of Fuquay-Varina, Darlene Hinton and husband, David of Clayton and Major Melinda Mathis and husband, Judson of Anchorage, Alaska; Great-grandchildren Kelsey and Katlyn Hinton and Diana Elizabeth Mathis . She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Wall; sisters, Lucille Barbee, Lola Mae Masters and Willodeen Wagner Moore and brother, Herman Goodwin. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 pm Thursday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ebenezer United Methodist Church Building Fund, 6020 Rock Quarry Road, Raleigh, NC 27610. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the care provided by the staff at Lawndale Manor and Hospice.
