RALEIGH - Nancy Jane Margaret Snyder peacefully left this life on April 3 at 7:02 PM. Nan was a force of creativity and expressed an indomitable spirit. Nan was born in Indiana and raised there and in Ohio. Early in her life her love of art and color became a guiding force, and she created many beautiful artworks in many mediums including photography, paint, fiber, clay, and computer graphic design which she continued to produce into her 80’s. In her 30’s she took up photography capturing her beatnik life in Boston. And in her 40’s she moved to the countryside of Maryland where she was a weaver and fiber artist. After raising three children, she did many interesting things including a stint as a radio interviewer when she interviewed civil rights icon, James Meredith. In the late 1980’s she became a teacher’s assistant in MD public school system, helping young kids with disabilities and pre-school aged children until she retired in her 60s. At the age of 83, she was a tech savvy granny who used all the latest technologies for her art and life. She retired to Raleigh NC to be close to her natural grandson. She leaves behind her 3 children and their families and lots of saddened hearts among her life-long and new friends, and neighbors. She never did things simply or half-heartedly, and we love her for that!
