Nina Joyce Moore

Nina Joyce Searcy Moore, 78, of Raleigh passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2023, after a battle with dementia.

Nina was born on December 21, 1944 to William Badger Searcy and Donia Barnell McLean in Bryson City, NC. After graduating from Graham High School in 1963 she studied at Piedmont Bible College. In 1963 she met Edwin G. Moore, Jr and were married in 1964.

She was a cafeteria manager with Wake County Public Schools and a faithful member of Ebenezer Community Baptist Church. She was passionate about her singing, working with youth at various churches, crafting and being with her family.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, her granddaughter, Deborah Sue Varney and brother Raymond Searcy and wife Doris.

Nina is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dr. Edwin G. Moore, Jr.; daughters, Tammy Rothwell (Dan) and Tonia Cavender; grandchildren, Jon Daniel, April Franks (Jay), Kim Ramsey (Will), Jessica Cavender and Brandon Cavender; great-grandchildren, Matthew Roberts, Bentlee Green, Brooklyn Franks, Bentley Franks and Kinsley Ramsey.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm Thursday at Ebenezer Community Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Loy officiating. Entombment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm immediately prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to Medi Home Health and Hospice, 9131 Anson Way #204, Raleigh, NC 27615.
