Orred Chandler Julien

b. June 2, 1917

Raleigh - Orred Chandler Julien of Raleigh, NC died Friday, August 10. She had been a resident of and most happy at Brighton Gardens in Raleigh for the last three years. Born in Bethesda in Durham Co. on June 2, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Lucullus Cassius Chandler and Henry Alice Marshall Chandler. Using her education from Mrs. Hardbargers College in Raleigh, she began her career as the secretary at what was then Josephus Daniels Jr. High School when it opened in 1955. During her 25 years there, she made many lasting and cherished friendships. After retiring from Daniels, she worked for 13 years at Rex Hospital on Blue Ridge Rd. in patient information. White Memorial Presbyterian Church was the foundation of her strong faith and very important to her life. For many years, she enjoyed being involved with the Keenagers group and the ladies in her Circle. Many of her friends from Daniels, White Memorial and Rex continued to visit her and send cards while she was at Brighton Gardens. While still living at home, working in her yearly vegetable garden was one of the things she enjoyed doing the most. And sharing her home grown vegetables with friends made all her efforts worthwhile and brought her a lot of joy. Lloyd Allyn Dimey Julien, her husband of 60 years, died in 1999. Surviving are her son, Allyn Julien, Jr. and wife, Sarah of Smithfield, VA; daughter, Alice Satterfield and husband Eddy of Wake Forest; two grandsons, Brent Julien of Smithfield, VA and David Julien and wife, Dawn of Williamsburg, VA; and four great-grandchildren, Chandler and Shelby Julien of Williamsburg, VA; Kenneth and Kyle Julien Corbett of Zuni, VA; sister, Dimney LaSalla of Raleigh; special nephew, Buddy Fuller and wife, Kitty of Raleigh; and several other nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. Orred lived her life looking through rose colored glasses, always seeing the good in everyone and everything. She will truly be missed by her family and friends who will remember her kindness and generosity. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, August 13, at Montlawn Cemetery in Raleigh. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in her name. But her suggested memorials are kind words and good deeds shared with others. Either or both will be a meaningful tribute to the life of Orred Julien.
