Orville Bryan "O.B." Mason Jr.

March 27, 1933 — August 23, 2023

Orville Bryan “O.B.” Mason, Jr of Raleigh passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2023. He passed away in his home, surrounded by his family, after a long battle with dementia and heart disease. He was 90 years old.

O.B. was born in Johnston County, NC, to the late Orville B. Mason, Sr and Ethel Beasley Mason. He was raised on a farm with five brothers and sisters. He played basketball at Meadow High School and loved to ride into town with his buddies on weekends.

After graduation from high school and a stint in the U.S. Army, he married that pretty girl from down the road he teased while working together in the cotton fields as kids. They left the farm, started careers and then a family, raising two sons.

O.B. enjoyed a successful career in management at several companies in the manufacturing industry around the Raleigh area, finally retiring from the Aeroglide Corporation in Cary as the Shipping and Traffic Manager.

After retirement, O.B. started a second career in the rental business. He bought several properties around Raleigh and on the N.C. coast that he managed for several years. He built, operated and then sold a very successful self storage business near Oriental, NC.

O.B. enjoyed being a part of his community. In his younger years, he was active in the Garner Jaycees, serving as President one year. He was a 50 year member of the American Legion. He was a longtime faithful member of the Garner Advent Christian Church.

O.B. loved playing golf with his brothers, going to auctions and flea markets with his buddy J.C., eating Oreos, and enjoying the N.C. coast. O.B. and Jean spent many happy summers entertaining their family and friends at the beach. His favorite past times were fishing for flounder, riding jet skis with the grandkids and spending time with his family.

O.B. will always be remembered as a wonderful loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, O.B. was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Mason; brother, J.W. Mason; sister, Corene Hardee and brother in law, Donnie Stancil.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Jean Dunn Mason; son, Stacey Mason and wife, Yvonne; daughter in law, Ann Gooch and husband, Gary; brothers, Marshall Mason and wife, Frances, Don Mason and wife, Linda; sister, Judy Stancil; 6 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
