Raleigh – Oscar Talmadge Simpkins, Jr., 83, died Wednesday at his home. A native of Wake County, he was the son of the late Oscar Teachy Simpkins, Jr. and Alice Sanderford Simpkins. He was the owner of Wake County Speedway and of Simpkins Trucking Co., as well as having 30 years of service with the News and Observer. Funeral services will be held Saturday, 1:00 pm at Calvary Raleigh Church. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00-9:00 pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. Survivors include his daughter, Deborah Simpkins McDonald and husband, Graham; son, Curtis Simpkins and wife, Leslie; grandchildren, Shanna, Matthew and Lacy; Karen Sealey and her family, who he considered as his own. In addition to his parents, Oscar was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Simpkins; daughter, Cathy Simpkins and brother, Glen Simpkins. Oscar has won the race of life, with a checkered flag in his hand, his victory is to spend eternity in Heaven with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. What glorious rejoicing it must be!
