Patsy Jean Callaway McCommons, 74, of Raleigh went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 12. Daughter of Herbert Harrison Callaway and Catherine Pitts Callaway, Patsy grew up in Washington, GA. She married the love of her life, Bill McCommons of Thomson, GA, in 1963. Bill and Pat moved to Raleigh, NC, in 1969. A graduate of Greenleaf College in Atlanta, Pat worked for many years at the NC Department of Revenue and loved her church, Fellowship Baptist. Throughout her life, Pat loved on others and set a wonderful example for her children. Pat’s personal relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is what she would want to pass on to all of her family and friends. As a young girl, Pat loved playing piano at Beaverdam Baptist Church. She continued this love even as her health declined, and would sing and play songs as prayers for loved ones. She was an inspiration, always encouraging and bringing out the best in others. Her family, in particular her five grandchildren, brought her happiness beyond measure. Survivors include her cherished husband of 54 years, William Benjamin “Bill” McCommons, Jr.; daughter, Catherine McCommons “Cathy” Stott (Glen) of Pittsboro; son, William Benjamin “Ben” McCommons, III (Deborah) of Garner; brothers Ricky Callaway (Penny) and David Callaway (Cindy) all of Washington, GA; grandchildren, Sarah, Harrison, and Anna Stott, Mackenzie and Delanie McCommons. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Monday, January 15, at Fellowship Baptist Church, 5029 Old Stage Rd, Raleigh, NC 27603 with the family receiving friends from 12:30-2:00 at the church. Burial will take place in Westview Cemetery, Thomson, GA, on Saturday, January 20 at 2 pm.
