Patsy Phillippi Pope, age 86, of Willow Spring, North Carolina and formerly of Fayetteville, North Carolina, passed away on December 19, 2020 at Brookdale Senior Living in Cary, NC. She was born on November 19, 1934 to the late Richard E. and Lucille Hilton Phillippi. Patsy graduated from George Wythe High School in 1952 and attended Emory and Henry College. Patsy was a bookkeeper at DK Taylor Oil Company in Fayetteville from 1976 until her retirement in 2018. Patsy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her passions in life were her family and her work. She was devoted to her husband and cared for him for following a debilitating stroke in 1991, until his death in 2000. After her husband passed, she loved and cared for her son and his family with the same devotion, spending many weekends with her granddaughter. She also remained devoted to and took great pride in her work and her friends at DK Taylor Oil. Patsy was preceded in death in September 2000 by her beloved husband, Master Sergeant Benjamin Franklin “Frank” Pope, Jr, who she married on March 15, 1960 in Wytheville. She accompanied her husband to their postings with the US Army in Germany, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia and abided at home with her son while Sgt. Pope served two overseas tours during the Vietnam War. Patsy and Frank returned to Fayetteville NC upon completion of his 24-year military service. Patsy was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers Warren C. “Pete” Phillippi and John B. Phillippi; brothers-in-law William E. Pope, John J. Pope, and Cecil Holston; and sisters-in-law Ruth Imogene P. Holston, Elizabeth Pope, Audrey L. Pope, and Emily Sue Pope. Patsy is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin Franklin Pope III and Cheryl Ann Pope, her granddaughter, the light of her life for the last 25 years, Elizabeth Ellen Pope, all of Willow Spring, NC. She is also survived by her brother Richard E Phillippi, Jr. and his wife Linda, of Wytheville; sisters-in-law Patricia Pope Phillippi of Wytheville, Norma Phillippi of Wytheville, and Ann B. Pope of Roanoke, VA; and brother-in-law Thomas J. Pope of Pulaski, VA. Bryan Lee Funeral Home in Garner is assisting the family in North Carolina. A memorial service will be held in North Carolina at a later date. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 30 at 1:00 pm in the West End Cemetery in Wytheville, VA. The Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements in Virginia. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 28th at 3:00 PM at Hollands United Methodist Church. Raleigh.
