Paul Joseph Capps, Sr.

GARNER- Paul Joseph Capps, Sr., 81, went to be with the Lord on Monday with his family by his side at Wake Medical Center. Born in Johnston County, he was the son of the late Delma J. and Ada Mae Messer Capps. Paul grew up around Baileys Crossroads and later moved to Coats. For many years, he was involved with the Coats Rescue Squad. Paul was a veteran of the US Army, having served in the Korean War as a Medic. In 1979, he moved to Garner. He retired from NCSU as an electrician. He pastored for a number of years at Mt. Carmel Church of God and was associated with the Church of Gods orphanage for five years in Kannapolis, NC Funeral Service will be 2:00 pm Thursday, Nov. 29th at Vandora Springs Free Will Baptist Church, Garner NC with burial to follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens in Angier, NC. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Medlin Capps; two sons, Paul Joseph Capps, Jr. and his wife, Terri of Garner and Matthew Capps and his wife, Lori of Dunn; step-children, Ken Medlin, J. Robert Medlin, Dr. Brenda Medlin, Donna Taylor and Myra Wilson; sister, Yvonne Capps Bushless; brothers, Ottis, Corbett and Ronald Capps; 4 grandchildren, Brooke, Trey, Adam and Sam Capps; 15 step-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Oswald Capps and step-child, Pam Stainback. Family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-8 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner, NC. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Vandora Springs Free Will Baptist Church, 1521 Vandora Springs Road, Garner, NC 27529.
