Peggy Collins Johnson

September 3, 1933 — October 20, 2021

ANGIER – Peggy Collins Johnson, 88, passed away Wednesday at McGregor Downs Health and Rehab Center in Greenville. A native of Harnett County, she was the daughter of the late Dallas Collins, Sr., and Beulah Stephenson Collins. A graveside service will be held on Monday at 2:00 PM at Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Angier with Elder David Cothren, pastor of Angier Primitive Baptist Church officiating. Peggy is survived by her sons, Barry Johnson and Sandy Johnson, both of Greenville; sister Linda Lou Lawrence (Gerald) of Angier; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard “Sonny Boy” Collins; Dallas Collins, Jr., Jimmy Collins, Colon Collins and Clarence Collins; sisters, Sarah Weis, Inez Stephenson, Malissie Tripp, Bertha Pleasant, Mary Gilliam, Velma Myatt, and Betty Sue Upchurch. Peggy enjoyed finding and making beautiful things from cloths and dolls to needle crafts and collecting clowns and light houses. She loved to travel. It was often said that "Go " was her middle name. Peggy and Sandy moved to Greenville 10 odd years ago to be closer to her son, Barry. They were often guest at her friend Steve Shelton's home for dinner where she always commented that "he sure put the 'little pot in the big pot' for that meal". The following poem, from a Dear Abby column, was always close to her heart as she carried a copy in her wallet at all times. Heaven's Very Special Child by Edna Massimilla A meeting was held quite far from earth "It's time again for another birth." Said the angels to the Lord above. "This special child will need much love." His progress may seem very slow. and he'll require extra care From the folks he meets way down there. He may not run or laugh or play, His thoughts may seem quite far away. In many ways he won't adapt And he'll be known as handi- capped. So let's be careful where he's sent; We want his life to be content. Please, Lord, find the parents who Will do a special job for you. They will not realize right away The leading role they're asked to play. But with this child sent from above Come stronger faith and richer love. And soon they'll know the privi- lege given In caring for this gift from heaven. Their precious charge, so meek and mild. Is heaven's very special child.
