1929-2012 Raleigh - Peggy Morris Gooch, native of Albemarle, NC and residing at Magnolia Glen, Raleigh, was born on November 20, 1929 and went to her heavenly home on November 17, 2012. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Birch Morris, Sr. and Hattie Moody Morris of Albemarle, her husband, Eric L. Gooch of Raleigh, as well as four brothers and one sister. She is survived by eight nephews, two nieces, and several great nephews and nieces survive. Among other survivors is a host of friends who have long been inspired by Peggys positive spirit. Upon completing high school in Albemarle, she studied at WCUNC in Greensboro before attending the Carver School of Missions in Louisville, Kentucky. Upon finishing school, she served on the staff of First Baptist Church in Rockingham, NC and of the Womens Missionary Union of North Carolina in Raleigh; however, her longest career tenure was 28 years of employment with the State of North Carolina Department of Revenue. Mrs. Gooch was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Raleigh for more than half a century. She was one of the first women to be elected to the Diaconate of her church, where she remained a deacon minister until recently. She was also an adult mission volunteer who traveled annually to Chinatown, New York City to teach Vacation Bible School at Trust in God Baptist Church. At Tabernacle, she was an active member in the Sunday School, the Baptist Women and the Adult Choir. For 15 years she supervised the Tabernacle Linen Closet, for which Raleigh citizens acquired referrals to seek bed linens and towels, etc., free of charge. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Gathering Place of Tabernacle Baptist Church. A Service of Celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tabernacle Baptist Church, 8304 Leesville Rd., Raleigh, NC 27612. The service will be officiated by Dr. Wayne Hager, Dr. Jack Coffey and Rev. Phyllis Crane. Interment will follow in Albemarle, NC at 3:30 p m at the Old Albemarle Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church Debt Retirement.
