Phyllis Ann Miller, of Raleigh, passed away peacefully at home on July 4, 2012 after a gallant battle with cancer.Her husband and children were with her at the time. She was born March 26, 1946 to the late Lorean and Raymond Meade.Phyllis was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Meade, Jr. and a sister, Rebecca Jane Carroll.Mrs. Miller graduated from Hyattsville High School (Maryland).She earned an Associate Degree of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Administration from N.C. Wesleyan College, and completed the Health Care Policy and Management Program at Harvard University in Boston.Phyllis worked 10 years on Capitol Hill, doing case work for various US Congressmen and Senators from Arkansas, California, Tennessee, and Nevada.She spent 15 years with Kaiser Permenante credentialing and recruiting their doctors.Phyllis was an avid quilter, winning many blue ribbons at the NC State Fair.Her Monday quilt group was one of her great joys.She loved to play golf, enjoyed gardening, and her baking was a real treat for those lucky enough to taste her cakes and pies.Traveling the United States, Europe, and other countries also made her happy.But, her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren and spending time with her family.Surviving are her husband, Benny B. Miller; her son, Robert Kirk Leone, wife, Margaret, grandchildren, Taylor and Grayson; daughter, Kimberly Ann Fiori, husband, Michael, all of Raleigh and daughter, Michele Adams of Cary and grandchildren, Chrysta, and Justin; sisters, Shirley Meade and Vickie Lynne Patton of Monroe, NC and brother, John Kevin Meade of Fredericksburg, VA and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.The family will receive friends Friday, July 6, 2012, from 6-8 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 7, 2012 at 11AM at Hollands United Methodist Church, 9433 Ten Ten Road, Raleigh, NC 27603 with burial to follow in the church cemetery.The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Waverly Hematology & Oncology and special thanks to Hospice of Wake County.Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC27607.
