Priscilla G. Sandy

December 31, 1940 — January 9, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Priscilla (Prissy) Griffis Sandy, age 84, on January 9, 2025 at the home of her son and surrounded by her family. A beloved mother, grandmother, and friend. Prissy lived a life filled with gratitude, joy, and a deep love for those around her.

Born on New Year's Eve in Raleigh, Prissy dedicated many years to the North Carolina Attorney General's Office, where her commitment to public service left an enduring legacy. Her exceptional contributions were recognized by then Governor Mike Easley and Attorney General, Roy Cooper, with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine award, one of North Carolina's highest civilian honors.

Prissy was sentimental and found beauty in life's simplest pleasures and shared her passions with all who knew her. An avid gardener, she brought life to her surroundings through vibrant flowers and greenery. She delighted in thrifting, discovering treasures at the cheapest price, appreciating the thrill of a bargain. She cherished Sunday drives, finding joy in seeing people's gardens, holiday décor, and porch sitting.

Whether it was down at SOS in Myrtle Beach or Loafers here in Raleigh, her love of shag dancing brought rhythm and joy into her life, as did her cherished time with friends.

Prissy selflessly provided long term care for her mother who suffered from Alzheimer's disease. She sacrificed so much to ensure her mother felt loved and cared for. She also supported others when their families could not. Nurturing by example gave us the skills and strength to care for her during the last years of her life.

As a mother, she showed us through example how to be kind and respectful. To work hard and that failure was just a learning experience. She made dinner every night and in nine years of Brooks playing baseball, his #1 fan only missed two games. Jill inherited Prissy's creative spirit, and she was so proud of Jill's eye for design. She loved spending time with Cori too, watching home design shows, shopping, and cooking.

Among her most treasured relationships was the one she shared with her grandson, Cole. She took great pride in watching him grow and bragged about him to anyone that would listen. Their bond was a testament to her role as a loving and devoted grandmother.

Prissy was surrounded by many dear friends, each with their own treasured stories of laughter and connection. She was everyone's best friend.

She is survived by her adoring children, daughter, Jill Sandy of Knightdale, NC, son, Brooks Sandy and wife, Cori of Apex, NC, and her grandson, Cole, also of Apex, who will carry her memory in their hearts forever. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Flora Griffis.

A celebration of her remarkable life will be held on January 16th, 2025, at Bryan Lee Funeral Home at 831 Wake Forest Rd, Raleigh. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in her memory or encourages you to share a story, plant a flower, or dance in her honor.

Though her absence leaves a profound void, Prissy's legacy of love and friendship will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
