GARNER- Rachel Grissom Tart, 84, passed away Friday. Rachel was born August 16, 1932 to Collin and Luna Grissom. She graduated from Garner High School in 1952 and married Frank Tart on February 12, 1955. Frank and Rachel attended Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and were very active in all aspects of their church. Rachel loved to watch her boys play ball as they grew up, often times watching 3 ball games in one evening. She continued this tradition with watching her grandchildren do the same. She loved listening to music and listening to her grandchildren perform. She loved cooking, gardening, quilting, fishing, and spending lots of time with family. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, June 25, 2017 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with Reverend Leonard Rex officiating. Graveside service will follow. Visitation will be held at the church from 1:30-3:00 pm prior to the service. Rachel is survived by her husband Frank; her 3 sons, Dexter (Tina), Benny (Karen), Dennis (Tina); grandchildren, Joshua, Elizabeth, Nikki, Katie, Ethan, Cody, Hunter and Bradley; her brother, Marshall (Shirley), and brother in law Rex Dean. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Louise; brothers, Douglas and Billy and sisters in law Ellen and Lorene. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church building fund or SECU Hospice of Johnston County.
