FUQUAY-VARINA–Ralph Edward Smith, Sr., 81, passed away Sunday at Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh. A native of Wake County, he was the son of the late Rufus Mayton Smith and Lena Stephenson Smith. A graveside service will be held for family and close friends on Thursday, March 11th, at 12:00 noon at Kennebec Church Cemetery, Angier. For those who want to sign the register and pay their respects, Ralph will lie in repose from 9:00 to 4:00 PM on Wednesday, March 10th. The family will also receive friends at the home (1345 Clayton Road, Fuquay-Varina) from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Wednesday, March 10th. The family requests that anyone attending these services or visiting with the family wear a mask and observe social distancing. Ralph is survived by his wife of 55 years, Billie Ann Smith; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Smith of Palm Beach, FL; son, David “Wayne” McLamb of Benson; brother, Durwood Smith of Willow Spring; grandchildren, Eric Lee Smith of Benson, Lauren Elizabeth Byrd (John) of Jensen Beach, FL; great-grandchildren, Jayson Smith, Hunter Byrd, Jackson Byrd, Caidance Byrd, Bristol Byrd. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Ralph Edward Smith, Jr. and Danny McLamb; siblings, Rufus Smith, Ray Smith, Jerry Smith, Dwight Smith, Fred Smith, Mozelle Adams, Magdalene Pleasant, and Barbara Brown.
