Horace Ray Dupree, 80, of Garner died at his home Friday, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Harnett County, he was the son of the late Loyd H. Dupree and Nellie Pleasant Dupree. He was also preceded in death by his brother Linwood Dupree. He was a veteran who served in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea. He was a farmer much of his life and enjoyed raising livestock and tending crops. He continued his career in Agriculture as a Fertilizer Dealer for the WR Grace Company, and the NC Dept .of Agriculture. He dedicated much of his life to serving his community. He served as President of the McCullers Ruritan club and started the first community Little League program where he coached and mentored many young men during this time in his life. He was an avid sports fan and loved baseball, football, and ACC basketball. He had many hobbies particularly a love of the great outdoors and fishing. He never met a stranger and always chose to see the good in people. He had a passion for life, and his laugh and sense of humor were infectious. His greatest passion and joy in life however was his love of family, his wife, and his six children. He is survived by his wife Gwen Bridges Dupree, Revely Dupree Jordan and husband Jerald of Clayton, Steven Ray Dupree and wife Wanda of Houston TX, Tim Dupree and wife Linda of Garner, Betsy Dupree Williams and husband Sherwood of Four Oaks, Michael Williams and wife Marshae of Garner, Donna Williams Mullis and husband Sam of Garner, 13 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. He is also survived by a sister Ellen Dale Hedgepeth of Coats NC, brother Marshall Dupree of Beaufort NC, and Brenda Torrella of Marathon Fla. Visitation will be held at the Bryan- Lee Funeral Home in Garner on Sunday, from 6 - 8pm. A Funeral service will be held on Monday at 2 pm at the Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Garner, followed by burial at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh.
