Rayford H. Methvin

January 20, 1921 — February 16, 2016

GARNER – Rayford Homer Methvin, 95, died Tuesday. Born in Alabama, he was the son of the late Edgar Eugene and Virgie Moore Methvin. Rayford is a member of the Greatest Generation serving in the US Coast Guard during World War II. He dedicated his life to the Lord, first serving the evangelical Methodist Church in Linville, NC and then as a missionary to Brazil. He continued his service through Christian Education as President of John Wesley College in Greensboro. Rayford is a retired pastor in the North Carolina United Methodist Church having served the Bladen Charge in Bladen County, Union Chapel in Kittrell, Spring Hill in Lillington, Pee Dee in Rockingham and Old Dock in Columbus County. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday at Holland’s United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Survivors include his sons, Ray Methvin and wife, Titania of Raleigh and Paul Methvin of Greensboro; brother, Athal Methvin of Ohio; grandson, Stephen Methvin and wife, Caroline. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Pauline B. Methvin; sister, Virginia Gladys Barber and brothers, Edward Thomas Methvin and Avis Methvin. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00-8:00 pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. Memorial contributions may be made to Holland’s United Methodist Church, 9433 Ten-Ten Rd., Raleigh, NC 27603.
