Raymond Smith

ANGIER – Raymond Carl Smith, 81, passed away Sunday at Rex Hospital. Born in Nebraska, he was the son of the late Carl Benedict Smith and Leona Streit Smith. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joy Denning Smith. Ray served his country on the Aircraft Carrier USS America during his enlistment with the U.S. Naval Reserve as a LTJG. He later retired from the Department of Defense as a civil servant. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 14th at 11:30 AM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier. Burial will follow the service at Angier Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM on Thursday at the funeral home. Ray is survived by his sister, Janice Smith Loeffelholz and her husband, Albert of Riverdale, NE; sister-in-law, Donna Denning of Angier; brother-in-law, Dan Denning and wife, Laura Ann of Lillington; nieces, Ranae Loeffelholz Aspen and husband, Dan of Kearney, NE and Rachel Denning of Lillington; nephews, Richard Loeffelholz and wife, Beth of Riverdale, NE and Lee Denning and wife, Beverly of Lillington; great-nieces, Mackenzie Denning of Lillington, McKenzie Loeffelholz Larsen and husband, Zach of Omaha, NE, Nikki Beito of MN; Leslie Aspen of Kearney, NE; great-nephews, Justin Loeffelholz and wife, Brittany of Kearney, NE, Logan Galabez of Omaha, NE, Ben Smits of Las Cruces, NM, Daniel Aspen of Kearney, NE; great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, Braxton and Landon Loeffelholz, Adallyn Larsen, and Erik and Lou Ann Beito. Ray has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to his niece who serves in North Africa with Serge.
