Raleigh - Rebecca Marshall Haygood died at her home on Sept. 15, 2016. She was born in Gastonia, North Carolina, to Sam Keesler Marshall and Zona Withers Marshall on July 18,1933. She married James R. “Ray” Haygood at Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church in Gastonia. They were happily married for over 60 years. She is survived by her husband, Ray; their three sons, James R. (Jackie), Daniel M. (Monica Hill) and David W. (Lynn) Haygood; two grandchildren, Margaret Ann “Maggie” and David Withers “Wit” Haygood Jr.; and her sister, Saida M. McCorkle of Charlotte. She was preceded in death by her brother Sam K. Marshall Jr. of Raleigh. Becky grew up in Gastonia and graduated from Gastonia High School, as well as Saint Marys College in Raleigh. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Becky loved people, Saint Timothys Church and cooking, and she was an avid collector of cookbooks and recipes. She taught Sunday School and served on the Altar Guild. She retired from North Carolina State Parks where she worked for over 20 years. A memorial service will be at noon Tuesday, Sept. 20 at Saint Timothys Episcopal Church, 4523 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, with a reception following the service. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Rex Healthcare Foundation, 2500 Blue Ridge Road, Suite 325 in Raleigh or Saint Timothys Episcopal Church.
