Rebecca Neal Lee

October 23, 1938 — April 13, 2024

Rebecca Gaskins Lee was born on October 23, 1938, to the late John Luther Gaskins and Annie Elizabeth Dupree Gaskins in Raleigh, North Carolina. She had five sisters and one brother. She graduated from Broughton High School in 1957, got married in 1958, and had her firstborn son, David Craig Johnson in 1959. Her second born son, Alan Keith Johnson in 1961, and her third son, Kenneth Todd Johnson in 1966. These three she raised with the help of her mother because her marriage broke apart. She had numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She remarried Bobby Lee somewhat later in life and found happiness in her second marriage until his untimely death in 2017.

She was diagnosed with cancer in 2023, which ravaged her body before her death in 2024 at the age of 85.

All this information is just facts about events that happened and people that were involved in her life, but it says nothing of the person she was and the tremendous legacy she leaves behind in the people who knew and loved her. The sacrifices made by, essentially, a single mom to raise her boys to be respectful, to have good character, to know, love, and follow Jesus Christ as Lord, and to model these traits in her life, not just her words. All the Christ-mas presents she wrapped, all the cakes she baked, the ball games she was always present for. The love she showed to her grandchildren, taking them on several vacation trips with her so they would have the chance to do things they otherwise wouldn’t have been able to do. The holidays that she made special, all the Thanksgiving dinners she cooked…. too many wonderful things she did to be able to list, all because of her love for her family.

But what anyone who knew her would most undoubtedly say about the life and legacy of Rebecca Gaskins Lee was her love, devotion, and commitment to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A conversation could rarely be had with her without his name coming up. She loved the Lord dearly, and now she’s with Him forever, and, for that, her family is so happy for her, but we’re so sad for ourselves… we’ve lost someone who is irreplaceable to us, but will live on in our hearts and our memories.

Thank you for everything Mom, you’re the best. We love you forever.
