ANGIER – Rena Mae Taylor Blalock, 87, passed away Tuesday morning at Wake-Med Cary. Rena was born on July 3, 1927, the youngest of four daughters of Maggie Page Taylor and Clarence Taylor. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing while her sister played the piano “by ear.” As a high schooler she worked at the local town theater. It was there she met a handsome young sailor named Dewey Blalock. They married on January 13, 1945. As members of the greatest generation, Dewey was sent overseas in WWII while Rena stayed home to care for their two young sons. That began the pattern of her life as a mother and the heart of the home. After the war, Rena worked alongside Dewey on the family farm where their youngest child and daughter was born. Rena enjoyed attending Kennebec Baptist Church, lunches with her WMU and high school friends, day trips with Dewey to try restaurants and see new regional sights, but most of all; she enjoyed time spent with her family. Funeral Services will be held Friday at 2:00 PM at Kennebec Baptist Church, Angier. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 -2:00 PM, one hour prior to the service at the church. She is survived by her husband of seventy years Dewey R. Blalock; sons, Dewey R. Blalock, Jr. and wife Brenda; Richard H. Blalock and wife, Carol both of Angier; daughter, Sharon K. Blalock of Charlotte; sister, Eira T. Watkins of Angier; grandchildren, Mark Blalock and wife, Carol of Angier; Steven Blalock and wife, April of Fuquay-Varina; Amy Blalock Williams and husband, Bonn of Oxford; Jill Blalock Glass and husband, Tom of Apex; great-grandchildren, Emily, Will, Taylor, Catherine, Caleb and Ryan Blalock, Caroline Williams and Kayleigh Glass; her beloved Yorkie Cricket and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters, Sarah T. O’Briant and Mary T. Smith.
