ANGIER- Reta Guy Strickland, 95, passed away at her home on Monday surrounded by her loving family. A native of Harnett County she was the daughter of the late Carlie Andrew Guy and Laylon Anna Broadwell Guy. She was a member of Angier United Methodist Church for 75 years. She attended East Carolina Teaching College before leaving for Washington to help with the war effort during World War II. Reta proudly worked for many years at the Hudson Belk Department Store in Raleigh. A memorial service will be held on Friday at 1:00 PM at the Angier United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall. Reta is survived by her daughters; Jill Bowen (Michael) of Buies Creek, Joanna Strickland of Angier; grandchildren, Anna Gregory (Brenden) of Richmond Hill, GA, Stephen Jakeman (Shannon) of Staunton, VA, Adam Gregory (Angie) of Angier, Megan Sorrell (Glenn) of Fuquay-Varina, Tabitha Jakeman (Kurry) of Angier; great grandchildren, Noah Jakeman, Kensley and Grayson Jakeman, Savannah, Luke, Elias and Oliver Sorrell, Daisy, Abel and Greta Gregory, Zadie and Selah Read. In addition to her parents, Reta was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Clinton Strickland, Jr.; her brothers, Gordon and Curtis Guy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Angier United Methodist Church, 278 South Wilma St. Angier, NC 27501.
