Rex “Bunny” Austin Dean, Jr.

Willow Spring– Rex “Bunny” Austin Dean, Jr. 66, a beloved husband, father and Bun-Bun passed away on Saturday at his home. A native of Wake County, he was the son of the late Rex Austin Dean, Sr. and Pansy King Dean. Rex was an active member of Kennebec Baptist Church for many years and served as the director of Sunday school with his wife, Glenda, served on the church council and was a member of the men’s Sunday school class. Rex owned and operated his own electrical contracting company for over 40 years. He worked with many individuals during that time, but none were more special to him than Matt Hobson, who worked for him for many years and was like a son to him. Rex was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing his harvest with family and friends. He was known for his tomato juice and collard greens. He and his family enjoyed traveling to the beach and mountains of North Carolina as well as Savannah, Ga. In addition to traveling Rex was an avid fisherman and water sports enthusiast. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 3:00 PM at Kennebec Baptist Church, Angier. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:45 PM prior to the service at the church. Rex is survived by his wife of 44 years, Glenda Upchurch Dean; daughter, Megan Dean Belk and husband, Chip of Mt. Ulla; son, Austin Ira Dean of Fuquay-Varina; sisters, Patsy Journey and husband, Craig, Jennifer Hair and husband, Danny, Gypsie Olive and husband, Ronnie all of Willow Spring; brothers-in-law, Hartwell Upchurch and wife Adele of Wake Forest, Johnny Upchurch and wife, Marsha of Moncure; sister-in-law, the late Anne Morrison, and husband, Ricky Morrison of Lillington (surviving); grandchildren, Cade Donald Belk and Camden Dean Belk; many special nieces, nephews and cousins. Flowers are appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to the Kennebec Baptist Church “Missions Fund”, P.O. Box 1690 Angier, NC 27501 in Rex’s memory.
