Richard Hartwell Boyd, Jr., 73, loving husband, father and grandfather, lost his five year battle with multiple myeloma on Thursday. Born in York County, SC, he was the son of the late Richard and Doris Torrence Boyd. In 1961, he graduated from South Mecklenburg High School and attended NC State University, where he graduated in 1965. He was an avid Wolfpacker and a member of the Wolfpack Club for many years. In addition, he was a longtime member of the Capital City Camera Club; a member of Cleveland School Advisory Council and a member of Oakland Presbyterian Church for over 40 years, where he served in many capacities, including Elder. Camping, fishing and hunting were some of the things he most enjoyed. Funeral services will be 3:00 pm Sunday at Oakland Presbyterian Church with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00-8:00 pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Margaret H. Boyd; daughters, Kelly Boyles and Karen Gower and husband, Brian; sons, Richard H. Boyd, III and wife, Tammy and Chris Boyd and wife, Yvette, all of Garner; sister Pat Furman of Texas; as well as his 11 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Boyd.
