Richard Lawrence Lowry

Richard “Ricky” Lawrence Lowry passed away on Wednesday, August 25. Ricky was born in Vance County to the late Mr. Walter Lawrence Lowry & Mrs. Helen Grissom Lowry. Ricky grew up in Wilson, NC and graduated from Fike High School. He went on to attend Chowan College and subsequently made his way to the NC coast. While working as a lifeguard, he met his beautiful wife, Shelia. They shared an incredible marriage for over 40 years. Ricky was a devoted father to his children, Brittany & Blake. He was so proud of his family & loved to show off their accomplishments. The greatest blessings of his life were his beloved grandchildren: Margaret, Thad, Parker & Jacob. Nothing made him happier than being with the children. Ricky was a successful business owner for more than 40 years. He was a skilled pilot and loved to fly with his friends and family. Ricky was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and water skiing. He cherished quiet sunsets and the loyal comradery of his fellow outdoorsmen and always made sure everyone was well fed. Ricky had the best stories and loved to make people laugh. He had the biggest heart and he would do anything for those he held close. Ricky was a God fearing man; he was hard working, reliable, selfless and incredibly fun to be around. His love has forever changed our lives and we will never be the same without him. Ricky is survived by his wife, Shelia Lowry; children, Brittany West and husband Barclay, Blake Lowry and wife Jennifer; grandchildren, Margaret & Thaddeus West, Parker & Jacob Lowry; sister, Catherine L. Moss; brother, William Lowry; and an incredible extended family. A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, August 31 at 4pm at Trinity Baptist Church, 4815 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27609 with visitation to follow at 5pm.
