Rita Carol Leonall

RALEIGH - Beloved Rita Carol Leonall passed over into the spiritual world on June 24th, 2023, at the age of 87. She was the daughter of Oscar and Shelia Shrewsbury and sister of Norma Hurst. Carol was born and raised in Matoaka, West Virginia.

She married Victor Carl Leonall on August 25, 1956, in Washington D.C. In 1957 they moved to her husband’s hometown of Cheboygan, Michigan.

She and Victor were devoted members of St. James Episcopal Church in Cheboygan and Church at Six Forks, in Raleigh, NC. Carol was a rock for her family and provided endless love, guidance, and support without hesitation. She helped her husband in the family pharmacies (Leonall Rexall Drug and the Prescription Place) for most of her life. They retired and moved to Florida part time and then to North Carolina. Her last residence was the Cypress of Raleigh retirement home where she had many close friends. Carol also frequently talked about her dearest and close friends from Cheboygan where she enjoyed many fun gatherings.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Victor, parents, Oscar and Shelia Shrewsbury, sister, Norma Hurst and nephew, Michael Fyke. She is survived by her three children, Carl Victor Leonall and wife Charlene, Tina Kim Leonall, and Diane Irene Leonall, and husband Noman; her five grandchildren, Heather Leonall Melcher and husband Steven, Sarah Leonall Palacio and husband Steven, Amy Leonall Feril and husband Harry, Amber Rashid, and Shawn Rashid; her four great grandchildren, Heather’s children, Josiah and Miriam, and Sarah’s children, Jonathan, and David; and her nieces and nephews, Ann Matthews, Ginny Bennett, Larry Hurst, Dennis Fyke, Barry Fyke, and Brett Fyke.

Carol was very close to her family. She will be missed but provided everyone with tremendous love and lessons to guide us. She was full of light and love, and we are grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of her life.
