RALEIGH - Robert “Allan” Alexander, 70, died unexpectedly in his sleep on Thursday June 7th. He was born in 1947 in Raleigh, NC to Joseph and Betty Alexander. He served his country in the U.S. Navy, and worked at Dorothea Dix Hospital in the Physical Plant Department for 30 years. Allan is survived by his wife of 40 years, Regina Young Alexander and five children, Vio Tapu and wife Gina of Bucharest, Romania, Irina Burlacu and husband Bogdan of Fort Collins, Colorado, Elena Alexander-Alvarez and husband Arturo “Al” Alvarez, Adam “Benone” Alexander and Dennis Alexander; grandchildren Alexandra Tapu, Aiden Alexander, Addison Alexander, Melanie Ramirez and Derek Ramirez; brother David Alexander and wife Judy from Goldsboro and sister Carolyn Truelove and husband Jack of Sparta, NC; and several beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Braxton Alexander. Allan enjoyed his retirement years “piddling” around the house always working on that Honey Do list, and making his daily rounds to Lowes, Home Depot and various neighbor’s houses. He was an active ruling elder at St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church where he was also responsible for the building and grounds. But the job he loved most at church was his role as the “official hugger”. He and Regina enjoyed the last three years traveling. They had just returned from a month long visit to Italy 8 days before his death. A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, June 13 at St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church, 1420 Carolina Pines Ave., Raleigh, NC 27603. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 1:15 pm and they will receive friends at their home at other times. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be contributed to the general fund of St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church.
