Robert Donald Rhyne, Sr.

Raleigh - Donald, 83, passed away on Friday, August 11, 2017, at Sunrise Assisted Living, Raleigh, NC.  Donald was born in Wake County.  His family moved to Wilmington, NC, where he graduated from New Hanover High School.  He entered the military after high school and served from 1954 – 1956.  After serving his country, he attended N. C. State University, graduating with a degree in Industrial Arts Education.  During his career with the state of North Carolina, he returned to N. C. State and received a Master’s Degree in 1964.  He retired from state employment after 32 years of service.  After retiring he pursued his love of woodworking, golf and travel. Donald dearly loved and adored his wife, Peggy with whom he shared 60 wonderful years of marriage.  He was devoted to his family and loved his children, Ginger Wall (Garry) and Bob (Edie), and his grandchildren, Robert III and Bailey.  He was predeceased by his father, William Robert Rhyne, his mother, Angie Miller, his stepfather, Henry L. Miller, and his sister, Linda Rhyne Dickens, and his mother-in-law, “Mama” Myatt. He was a member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church where he quietly served his Lord.  He especially enjoyed assisting with the Wednesday dinners and attending the Tuesday morning breakfasts. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for the loving care Donald received from the staff at Sunrise Assisted Living, Transitions LifeCare, and from Dr. Benjamin Fischer. A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 14, 2 pm at White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Road, Raleigh 27608.  Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends in the Jane Bell Gathering Space. In lieu of flowers the family asked that memorials be made to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle,  Raleigh, NC 27607 or to Parkinson Association of the Carolinas, 1515 Mockingbird Lane, Suite 1055, Charlotte, NC 28209.
