Robert E. “Bobby” Richardson

GARNER-Robert Elmer Richardson, 82, of Garner, passed away Friday February 3, 2017 at his home with his daughter by his side.  Born in Wake County, he was the son of the late Elmer Bryan Richardson and Ina Mae Richardson Hicks. Mr. Richardson is survived by his daughter, Julie Richardson McGrath and her husband, Paul; grandchildren, Colin McGrath and his wife, Elizabeth, Scott McGrath and MaryRobert McGrath, all of Raleigh. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Hilda Thigpen Richardson. Mr. Richardson served in the US Air Force as an electronics technician and instructor. He later retired from the Federal Aviation Administration where he was assigned to several field offices responsible for maintaining radar transmission sites for air traffic control. Even after suffering a severe stroke in 2000, Bobby never let anything get him down. If ever asked how he was doing, his response was always “FANtastic!” or “If I was any better, I couldn’t stand it!” He had an attitude we should all aspire to have. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 12 Noon at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Garner. A private family burial will be at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh. The family will receive friends after the service. Our family would like to express our gratitude to the administration and staff of Right at Home, especially to our “dream team” who became family to us over the last four years.  We also thank Transitions HospiceCare, not only for their expert care, but for the love and support they gave and continue to give.
