ROBERT EUGENE RILEY, JR.April 4, 1930 - July 19, 2011GARNER-Robert Eugene (Bob) Riley, Jr., 81 passed away Tuesday evening, July 19, 2011 at his home with his wife, family and private nurse by his side. He had been under the care of Heartland Hospice for the past fifteen months. He was born April 4, 1930 in Saltillo, Mississippi, son of the late Robert Eugene Riley and Clara Thornley Riley. He attended Saltillo High School (1949); Mississippi College (1956) Clinton, Mississippi; Graduate School - Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana (1958); University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan (1967). On October 15, 1950 he was ordained into the Gospel Ministry. He was the Assistant Chaplain in the U.S. Army 1954-1955. He then served in the National Guard and received an honorable discharge in 1962. Bob is survived by his wife, Doris Louise Langley Riley of 13 years; sons, Rev. Benjamin A. Riley (Julie), Little Rock, AR, Phillip A. Riley (Janet), Cypress, TX and William A. Langley, Jr. (Sheryl), Summerland Key, FL; daughter, Jennifer A. Riley, Sugar Land, TX; grandchildren, Abby R. Jackson (Shane), Birmingham, AL, Elizabeth R. Kay (Paul), Conway, AR, Joel Riley, Little Rock, AR, Joshua Riley (Emily), Lauren Riley, Michael Riley, Cypress, TX., Dr. Trey Langley (Genevieve), Atlanta, GA, Brooke L. Miller (James), Raleigh, NC, Benton William Langley, Summerland Key, FL; great-grandchildren, Piper Noel Miller, Finn Garland Miller, Raleigh, NC and Emilia Sunday Langley, Atlanta, GA; sister, Dorothy R. Harwood, Ormond Beach, FL. He was preceded in death by wife, Syble Ann Gilchrist Riley; parents, Robert Eugene Riley and Clara Ellison Thornley Riley; brothers, Aubrey H. Riley and Horice Ray Riley; sisters, Mildred R. Cunningham, Mary Sue R. Hunter and Barbara R. Sigafoos. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Garner, NC. He served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, member of the worship choir, Trustee of the Community of Hope Ministries, Senior Adult Fun and Fellowship Group and many other committees. He was a member of Garner Masonic Lodge #701 where he served as past Chaplain. He was a member of Garner Chapter #321 Order of The Eastern Star where he served as Worthy Patron and past Chaplain. This gave him an opportunity to serve the Grand Chapter of N.C. in many appointments statewide. The family will receive friends at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner Thursday, July 21, 6:00-8:00 p.m. In celebration of Bobs life, a funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church, Garner, N.C., Friday, July 22 at 10:00 a.m. A graveside memorial service will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, MS.
