Robert Fountain

GARNER -Robert J Fountain passed away Sunday, March 21, 2021 after a long illness. Bob was born on March 14, 1943 in Malone, NY, the son of Wallace and Eva Spinner Fountain. He moved to Massena, NY at an early age and attended local schools. Bob enlisted in the US Army, serving in the 101St Airborne Division at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. After discharge he went to work for St. Lawrence Gas working in various departments before becoming Supervisor of Operations in 1983. He was also the owner of Superior Plumbing & Heating Company, Norfolk, NY. In 1998 he moved to Raleigh, NC where he spent the remainder of his years. Bob always looked forward to Opening Day of trout season and spent many enjoyable hours fishing various streams and rivers. He also enjoyed camping, cross country skiing and working in his vegetable garden. Bob was active in a number of community organizations and devoted much of his time to St. Vincent de Paul Society in Massena before moving south. Known for his empathy toward others, Bob was always ready to lend a hand to those in need. Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sandra Bennett Fountain along with 6 children, and their spouses: Robert Jr. of Colton, NY, Jacqueline Jenkins, Winthrop, NY, Theresa Fountain of Bedford, Indiana, Richard W. Fountain, Apex, NC, Christopher L Fountain of Willow Springs, NC, Jason J Fountain of Raleigh, NC. He was predeceased by a daughter Kim Boback in 1997. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and their families. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, March 25, 2021 at 11 AM at St. Mary Mother of the Church in Garner, NC with the Rev. David M Chiantella officiating. He will be interred at St. Andrew the Apostle Columbarium at a later date.
