Robert L. Johnson

Robert L. “Bob” Johnson was born on Tryon Road in Raleigh, NC on July 25, 1927 to Hilda Smith Johnson and Alexander F. Johnson. As a small boy Bob loved animals, especially horses and begin to ride before reaching the age of 6. His home was located on a portion of his grandparents farm and remains to this day. He attended Broughton High School in Raleigh. Bob served in the United States Navy in the Mortuary Services Unit in Norfolk, VA during World War II. In December 1945 he married Margaret L. Poole and they lived for the next 15 years in the Boylan Heights area of Raleigh. In 1950 son Steve was born, followed by son Wayne in 1952. In 1960 they build a house on the family farm. and lived there for the next 60 years. Son Steve lives there today.

Bob was an avid horseman, raising quarter horses for much of his life. He spent over 40 years working for Carolina Power and Light Company but also enjoyed his side interest of running a “Tack Shop” on the Circle J Farm selling horseback riding equipment and western wear. Bob also began selling golf carts and utility trailers after his retirement to fill the time and as he would say, “make a buck.”

Bob was preceded in death by his wife Margaret and son Wayne. He is survived by son Steve, grandsons Brad and wife Mary, and Scott and wife Emily. He was also blessed by six great grandchildren, William, David, Mary Kate, Brody, Wyatt, and Madison. His family meant everything to Bob.

A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, January 16th at 2:00 P.M at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh with a Visitation to take place prior from 12:15 P.M. to 1:15 P.M. at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner.
