Robert Lee Norris, 94, of Raleigh, August 9, 2023.
Robert was born September 2, 1928, in Four Oaks, the son of Seth Andrew Norris and Mary Honeycutt Norris.
Robert attended Four Oaks Schools and served as a Marine in China during World War II. After the war, Robert married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Hicks Norris of Smithfield. They settled in Raleigh and celebrated 72 years of marriage in January.
Robert worked in the print shop at North Carolina State University and enjoyed a long career with the US Postal Service until retirement.
Robert and Ruth enjoyed singing in the choir, Sunday school and other activities with their church family at First Baptist Church of Garner. Robert served serving as a Deacon for many years. Robert cherished spending time with his family telling stories about growing up in the rich landscape of North Carolina, gardening, playing cards, fishing, and traveling. He also loved attending NCSU basketball and football games whenever possible.
Robert was predeceased by his parents and five brothers, Joseph Norris (Maggie), Victor Norris (Lillie Mae), Vernon Norris (Betty), Gardner Norris (Hilda) and Landis Norris (Joyce).
Robert is survived by his wife, Ruth, and two sons, Robert Lee Norris, Jr., (Angela) and Gary Wayne Norris (Linda); Grandchildren are Robyn Wilson (Bryan), Adam Norris (Britt), Garrett Norris (Dennielle), Ashley Karen Grady, Trey Grady (Leah), Helen Rattie (Chris) and Diane Louten (Robert). Great-grandchildren are Seth McLeod, Sydney McLeod, Lydia Norris, Halle Norris, Avaleigh Norris, Lovey-Jean Norris, Amelia Storm and many wonderful, loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, 6 to 8 pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Rd, Garner, NC 27529.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, 1 pm at First Baptist Church of Garner, 601 St. Mary’s Street., Garner, NC 27529. The burial will immediately follow at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC 27603.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Garner Music Ministry or FBC Community of Hope in care of First Baptist Church of Garner, 601 St. Mary’s Street., Garner, NC 27529.
