Robert Michael Tyndall

September 28, 1950 — June 1, 2024

Mike Tyndall, of Raleigh, left this earth on June 1, 2024 to be with his Lord and savior.

He is survived by his mother, Shirley Turner Massad; his loving wife of 53 years, Edith Salmon Tyndall; daughters Michaela Underhill (Chad) of Raleigh, Jamie Tyndall Franco (Michael) of Coral Springs; brother Ronald Tyndall (Jean) of Coats; sister Amanda Byrd (Danny) of Coats; grandchildren Cameron Hinnant, Mykaela Hinnant, Alex Betancourt, Emma Betancourt, Sam Franco, and Cole Underhill; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mike is preceded in death by his father, IW Tyndall.

After graduating from Erwin High School, Mike followed his passion for music and played drums for The Georgia Prophets and The Assembly of Soul. He also played backup for Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons and Steppenwolf. He briefly attended Sandhills Community College where he met Edie, the love of his life. Although Edie loved traveling with Mike and being his biggest groupie in the crowd, Mike most wanted to have a family. He began working in the mailroom at Cotton Incorporated and decided he wanted to pursue a career in the textile industry. He attended NCSU and studied textile chemistry while working in the labs at Cotton Incorporated. He then spent the next 43 years as an industry expert who not only was respected and admired by colleagues, but he was also considered a true friend by everyone he met. He was a member and leader in several professional organizations and was always recognized for his expertise, demeanor and generosity.

Mike’s desire to walk in the footsteps of Jesus also led him to be actively involved at his church, Aversboro Road Baptist and his Sunday School class, JC Ford. Even on his roughest days, Mike always made every effort to attend Sunday School because his spirit was always lifted when he was there.

Mike’s ability to lead by example was demonstrated throughout every aspect of his life. He was humble, compassionate and uplifting. He always had a kind word to say; he was always a good listener; he was always a helping hand. Mike absolutely loved fishing, riding on a boat, digging in the sand for hours looking for shark teeth, watching some sort of movie with monsters or dinosaurs while eating buttered popcorn and spending time with his family. Mike was a true patriot; he loved America, the military, police officers, fire fighters, etc. He loved standing and cheering for all who serve this country. Mike was a true gentleman with dignity and respect, he was a kind and gentle soul, and he was our beloved Dad.
